Remembering Ben

This weekend, we flew out of town to visit with family. The trip was difficult and too short. Upon unpacking, I came across the urn we have Ben resting in after having him creamated. It was an omotional trip and it was easy to have tears well up in my eyes as I thought about it.

I am realizing that I'm forgetting much about him. It's not intentional, but I can't see him walking around our house anymore. I don't remember where is favorite spot to lay was. I don't remember where he would sleep. But, with those fading memories, others are still running strong.

I remember the military style walks we would do twice a day. He would get so excited and get on with the walk...no smelling the flowers on our walks.

I also remember purchasing a coat to help for the few cold mornings we have in Texas. He didn't like it much. I remember his ears flopping to the side, was a really fast runner that permanently deformed his hears.

He may have been a bit motley to look at, but he loved us and we loved him. He was our first dog and has now ushered in two more. He is responsible for two other greyhounds finding a forever home. Even with his passing New Years Day of '06, he continues to give back to me.
