"Tab" key behavior in Microsoft Excel

Recent, I received a new laptop at work. When I got it, while working on an Excel spread sheet, I got crazy on the keyboard and hit some "magic" key combination that changed the behavior of the "Tab" key.

What happened after the magic combination? The "Tab" key placed the focused cell over a whole page to the right instead of one cell. That is, it would jump to the first cell out of the current cells viewed on my monitor, i.e., it would jump a "whole page" instead of a single cell.

What was the magic combination? No idea.

Time to finally figure it out? Weeks.

The solution? Tools -> Options -> Settings -> Uncheck the Transition Navigation Keys

Apparently, having the Transition Navigation Keys makes the keys typically used in Excel, i.e., Tab, Home, End, arrow, and etc. keys behave as they would in Lotus 123.

Go figure.

Just got this email today...I didn't know these scams were still out there. Mr. Islassis, I'll let you know as soon as I have that $100,000 to send you.

Dear Sir/Madam.

I have been requested by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company to contact you for assistance in resolving a matter. The NNPC has recently concluded a large number of contracts for oil exploration in the sub-Sahara region. The contracts have immediately produced Funds equaling US$40,000,000. The NNPC is desirous of oil exploration in other parts of the world, however, because of certain regulations of the Nigerian Government, it is unable to move these funds to another region.

Your assistance is requested as a non-Nigerian citizen to assist the NNPC, and also the Central Bank of Nigeria, in moving these funds out of Nigeria. If the funds can be transferred to your name, in your United States account, then you can forward the funds as directed by the NNPC. In exchange for your accommodating services, the NNPC would agree to allow you to retain 10%, or US$4 million of this amount.

However, to be a legitimate transferee of these Funds according to Nigerian law, you must presently be a depositor of at least US$100,000 in a Nigerian bank which is regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

If it will be possible for you to assist us, we would be most grateful. We suggest that you meet with us in person in Lagos, and that during your visit I introduce you to the representatives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, as well as with certain officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Please call me at your earliest convenience at 18-467-4975. Time is of the essence in this matter; very quickly the Nigerian Government will realize that the Central Bank is maintaining this amount on deposit, and attempt to levy certain depository taxes on it.

Yours truly,

Prince Alyusi Islassis

Holy Dancing Greyhounds Batman

I was flipping through the channels this morning unable to sleep. I came across the K9 to 5 show on animal planet that features various types of docks. On the show, they profiled a group of dancing greyhounds. Don't worry, the cow hasn't come hone yet. It so funny watching them dance around and swing. Check out some photos and their website. Hope they make there way into Houston one day. If you can, make sure to visit the show and see just how agile these magnificent and shows you that greys are teachable. I love it.

Funny though, when I throw myself on my back at her feet, she doesn't scratch it.

Remembering Ben

This weekend, we flew out of town to visit with family. The trip was difficult and too short. Upon unpacking, I came across the urn we have Ben resting in after having him creamated. It was an omotional trip and it was easy to have tears well up in my eyes as I thought about it.

I am realizing that I'm forgetting much about him. It's not intentional, but I can't see him walking around our house anymore. I don't remember where is favorite spot to lay was. I don't remember where he would sleep. But, with those fading memories, others are still running strong.

I remember the military style walks we would do twice a day. He would get so excited and get on with the walk...no smelling the flowers on our walks.

I also remember purchasing a coat to help for the few cold mornings we have in Texas. He didn't like it much. I remember his ears flopping to the side, was a really fast runner that permanently deformed his hears.

He may have been a bit motley to look at, but he loved us and we loved him. He was our first dog and has now ushered in two more. He is responsible for two other greyhounds finding a forever home. Even with his passing New Years Day of '06, he continues to give back to me.
